Putting a book back on the shelf in the correct spot is crucial to the organization of a school library. Incorrectly shelved books become lost to the student body, like trying to find a "needle in a haystack!" So please follow the instructions below when returning a book:
- Check off on the sign out sheet that you returned the book.
- Look at the spine label to locate where the book goes:
- FIC = fiction
- FIC DES
- Fiction + first three letters of author's last name
- Place book on shelf in alphabetical order according to the first three letter's of the author's last name.
- FIC = fiction
- Dewey Decimal = nonfiction
- Decimal number + first three letters of author's last name
- Arrange by decimal number first and then author's last name
- Biography section: 92 + author's name
- If you are still unsure where the book should be placed, leave book on the book cart or in the book crate designated for returns.
- If a book is lost or damaged, please leave me a note letting me know.
- HELP FOR RETURNING BOOK TO CORRECT SPOT ON SHELF: REPLACE SPOT ON SHELF WHERE BOOK WAS REMOVED WITH A "BOOK SLOT HOLDER CARD." This will help you to return the book to its correct spot.
